A Natural Approach To Health
Living With Roseola
I had a question the other day about roseola.
Roseola is a mild illness caused by a virus.
It’s generally harmless and most common in children 6 months to 2 years of age.
It’s rare after age 4.
Roseola is caused by 2 common viruses belonging to the herpes family of viruses.
They’re spread through tiny droplets of fluid from the nose and throat of infected people when they laugh, talk, sneeze, or cough.
Roseola mostly spreads from infected people who don’t show symptoms.
If your child has roseola, keep him or her at home until there’s been no fever for 24 hours and he or she is feeling better.
Roseola often starts with a sudden high fever (103°F – 105°F) lasting 2-3 days, although it can last up to 8 days.
The rapid increase in temperature may be the first sign of roseola and often occurs before you realize your child has a fever.
The fever ends suddenly.
After the fever ends, a rosy-pink rash may appear mostly on the trunk, neck, and arms.
The rash isn’t itchy and may last 1-2 days.
A child with roseola may appear fussy or irritable and may have a decreased appetite, but most children behave almost normally.
To deal with roseola it’s beneficial to:
*Drink plenty of purified water, broths, and juices daily to hydrate and flush toxins. This will also help to bring down body temperature.
*Aloe vera gel has antioxidant properties that can aid in healing.
*Calendula, chamomile, elderflower, and tea tree oil can be used externally as a soothing wash on the rash.
*A poultice made with dandelion and yellow dock root can benefit the rash.
*While a fever is present, avoid taking any supplements containing iron or zinc.
*Get plenty of rest.
*Avoid radical changes in atmospheric temperature.
*Take cool sponge baths.
*Increase Omega3/omega6 essential fats.
*Use ShakleeBaby skin care products.
*Consider liver and/or colon cleanses, fasting, and/or juicing.
*Review my post on candida.
*Eliminate toxic personal care, laundry and cleaning products.
*Eliminate personal care products that upset skin’s natural pH.
*Decrease exposure to chlorinated shower/bath water, pools and hot tubs.
*Improve your digestion and elimination processes.
*Eliminate free radical damage.
