Living With Mononucleosis
I had a question the other day about mononucleosis.
Mononucleosis, also called “mono,” is a common illness that leaves you feeling tired and weak for weeks or months.
Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
It’s most often seen in teens and young adults.
Children can get the virus, but it often goes unnoticed because their symptoms are mild.
Older adults usually don’t get mono, because they have immunity to the virus.
Mono is spread through contact with saliva, mucus from the nose and throat, and sometimes tears.
Because the virus can be spread through kissing, it’s earned the nickname the “kissing disease.”
If you have mono, you can avoid passing the virus to others by not kissing anyone and by not sharing things like drinking glasses, eating utensils, or toothbrushes.
As soon as you get over mono, your symptoms will go away for good, but you’ll always carry the virus that caused it.
The virus may become active from time to time without causing any symptoms.
When the virus is active, it can be spread to others.
The most common symptoms of mono are a high fever, a severe sore throat, swollen glands and tonsils, and weakness and fatigue.
Symptoms usually start 4 to 6 weeks after you’re exposed to the virus.
Mono can also cause your spleen to swell.
Severe pain in the upper left part of your belly may mean your spleen has burst. This is an emergency and needs immediate treatment.
Mono goes away on its own, but there are things you can do to speed recovery and help you feel better.
To deal with mononucleosis it’s beneficial to:
*Drink 6-8 cups of purified water daily to hydrate and flush toxins.
*Review my post on keeping clean on the inside.
*Breathe easier; purify indoor air.
*Increase essential fats (flax oil, olive oil, Omega-3 oils).
*Consume a 50% raw food diet: lots of fresh, raw fruits and veggies (organic when possible). Include fresh juicing.
*Consider liver and colon cleanses.
*Increase exercise, deep breathing, relaxation, stress management and energy techniques.
*Increase fresh air, sunshine, connect to nature, adequate rest.
*Deal with any underlying emotional issues.
*Consider skin brushing, Epsom salt baths, hydrotherapy or add baking soda to bath water.
*Ensure regular (2 per day) bowel movements.
*Decrease toxic exposures of all kinds.
*Investigate and eliminate “hidden” allergies/sensitivities.
*Decrease or eliminate any and all hydrogenated, trans fats, and deep-fried foods.
*Decrease or eliminate sugar-laden foods, white flour products, simple carbs.
*Decrease or eliminate processed, instant, chemical-laden, “lifeless” foods.
*Decrease or eliminate smoking, alcohol, coffee, soda pop, processed juices.
*Become educated about all possible side effects and detrimental influences of any medications or treatment procedures you are taking or considering.
*Research and address underlying Candida issues.
*Avoid MSG and artificial sweeteners as they are neurotoxins.
*Explore dental amalgam toxicity.
*Avoid acidic foods.
*Get plenty of rest.
