How Many Toxic Invaders are in Your Home?
It’s important to know all the ways chemicals get into your home, your life and ultimately your cells. The indoor air in the average home is full of chemicals. Often you don’t have much control over these, but you should always choose nontoxic products whenever possible.
We have the power to control one major aspect of our home’s toxicity – the household cleaners and laundry products we use. As we use these products our skin, respiratory system and entire body are exposed to toxic ingredients. The toxins linger on our clothing and bedding. They linger in the air. They linger on our floors, where our children spend most of their time. And they accumulate slowly but surely within our cells posing a significant threat.
A toxic lifestyle is often created unknowingly. We don’t realize that many toxic exposures over time causes our cells to malfunction. Even small amounts of toxins can be devastating. Toxicity isn’t usually recognized as a main cause of our health problems, but it is. The toxins in our lives also aren’t easily detected by typical means and they’re rarely labeled as hazardous making them difficult to identify.
Cleaning Products or Toxic Hazards?
How do chemical toxins enter your body?
*Ingestion (food, drinks, water, drugs, cigarettes, dental amalgams, toothpaste, chemical residue from plastics, aluminum, foam)
*Inhalation (outdoor air pollutants, indoor air pollutants (cleaning products, paints, personal care products, construction materials, furniture, carpets))
*Absorption through the skin (cleaning products, personal care products, laundry products)
We inhale over 500 chemicals every day in the average home. Your most important environment is your home, first, because that’s where you spend most of your time, and second, because it’s the one you have the most control over. Over time, our body’s fat stores become saturated with the chemicals we breathe , eat, drink, or absorb through our skin. Some chemicals can’t be completely broken down and removed by exhalation, perspiration, saliva, urine, and bowel movements. How long can our bodies can handle this ever-increasing chemical overload?
How are the products you choose to clean your home environment affecting the health of . . . ?
*You and your loved ones (young children, elderly, those dealing with health challenges)
*Your pets and your houseplants
*Guests in your home
*Your environment, Mother Nature, your planet, future generations
If you own or manage a business how do the products you choose affect your clients, coworkers, employees?
Would you knowingly bring into your home and expose your family to chemicals known to cause the following? Does anyone in your home suffer from. . . ?
*Neurological damage or concerns
*Asthma, allergies, respiratory issues
*Brain toxicity, ADD, headaches
*Reproductive and fertility issues, birth defects
*Skin concerns, digestive concerns, immune system dysfunction
*Degenerative disease, cancer, virtually any disease
Children are especially susceptible
Children are very vulnerable to environmental health issues because they’re in a constant state of growth, with cells multiplying and organ systems developing rapidly. At birth, their nervous, respiratory, reproductive and immune systems aren’t fully developed. Children breathe more rapidly and take in more air in proportion to their body weight than adults. They also have higher metabolic rates and a higher intake of food and liquid than adults.
Many products we’ve been led to believe are safe, are quite the opposite. In our efforts to clean our body and our environment, thinking we’re protecting our health, we often do quite the opposite. Without thinking about it, we assume products found in stores are safe. That’s far from the truth. Educate yourself. You’ll be shocked at what you find out! Product development, manufacturers, marketers and our governing bodies care very little about health and lots about profit.
